In response, a group of citizens came together with a simple but urgent purpose: to defend the right of every person, especially students, to access books freely and without fear. That effort became 451 Avengers.

451 Avengers is a volunteer-driven, community-based organization working on the front lines of the fight against book bans. They are organizing conversations, showing up at public meetings, building awareness, and giving people the tools they need to speak out. From interfaith dialogues about censorship to community festivals and Pride events, 451 Avengers is meeting people where they are and helping them understand what’s at stake. This is not abstract work. It is local, personal, and immediate. Book bans don’t just remove pages from shelves, they limit opportunity, silence voices, and narrow the future for young readers.
